farewell...

It has come time to say farewell to an old friend...my trusty Jeep. I got it in December of 2002 (so for those of you that are trying to count, I had it for almost 5 1/2 years). It was a good vehicle, but with almost 139,000 miles on it and gas at almost $4.00 a gallon, it was time to trade her in. I didn't get alot for her, but something is better than nothing right?!?!?!

The new car...a 2006 Mazda 6. I didn't think that I would like going back to a car after such a long time in an SUV, but after having the Mazda for only 4 days...i love it!!! And I think that the mpg (miles per gallon) is really going to be a great thing...I just filled up today, and have done LOTS of driving since I got the Mazda...I even drove home to Abilene.

I know that some of you it will be quite an adjustment for you to get used to me driving a car and not the gold jeep...but get used to it, I am going to have her a while...

briefcase...

Ok, so I teach 7th grade and everytime someone asks me what I teach and I tell them 7th grade I ALWAYS get close to the same response. "oh you poor thing" or "oh my, bless your heart" or "really?! why?!?!?!". And you can usually hear the same response from me "I love it" or "there really is never a dull moment". And both of those responses are the honest to goodness truth.

I have a student who just really seems to always leave me at a loss for words, or leave me in the hallway laughing and then having to compose myself before I re-enter the classroom.

Earlier in the year, April 1st to be exact, this student came in and very matter of factly announced to me that they had rabies. Now understand that one of my very favorite shows on tv is the office, so all I could think of was the fun run episode of the office in which they have a 5K walk/run to cure rabies. I seriously had to remain in the hallway a good 7 minutes in order to be able to compose myself.

Today this student walked into my classroom with a briefcase. Not just a small briefcase, but a rather large one. This student proceeded to open it up, place it on the desk and "work" from it. It truly had to be one of the funniest things that I have seen all year long. I really don't know why I found this to be so incredibly funny, but it was. If I could have taken a picture of the scene, I would have. I really had to find other teachers to share in the moment with me, because there was no way that I would let that pass and not share the joy and laughter it brought to my life.

funny thing happened to me on the way to school...

I was driving to school this morning, just like normal. My cell phone resting in the center console of my car, charging, because I left my home charger at my parents so my only method of charging currently is in route to places. I am about 7 minutes from school, and my phone rings. I look down to see the picture of my neice show up, and I stop and say to myself "why is Kristen calling me at 7:15 am?" So I figured this must be something really important so I pick up the phone and say hello. I don't hear anything. I say hello again, and I hear my neice jabbering. Just jabbering away. I asked her if her mommy knew she had her cell phone, she just jabbered. I asked her if she was getting ready for school, she said Cayman, jabber, Cayman. (side note: Cayman is her boyfriend at preschool). I asked her if she had been playing on her new playground. answer: jabber, grandma, jabber, mommy, jabber, cayman. I finally said good bye and promply called my sister back, with out an answer. So I left her a message informing her that her daughter had her phone and that she and I had a 3 minute conversation that involved Cayman, mommy, and grandma. So that was the start to my morning...it was just really funny and I had to share. One day we will actually have a conversation and I will know what she is saying.

Happy Birthday (Belated) Sistor!!!!

I love this picture of my sister and myself, it brings me back to a time...I don't know what time, but a time none the less. My sister turned the big 2-5 yesterday!!! I don't know where the time goes. It seems like just yesterday I was yelling at her for stealing my clothes from my closet or dresser after I left for school, and that I was playing school and making my sister do workbooks that we got from somewhere (garage sale or something). I guess I always had that teaching bug in me. And now, my little sister is a mother to a 2 year old, a wife, and still the best sister ever (of course she is the only sister I know, so she really doesn't have much competition). We still have our disagreements, but who doesn't, and who knows, she very well still may steal my clothes after I leave for school...or when I go home for a visit. I know she is crazy, but we are sisters and there is some of that in me too. I wish we lived closer (although I know my mom is grateful that we don't) because I miss there being someone who gets the movie quote I randomly throw into conversation. Or someone to get the "Saturday Night Live" refrence and not look at me like I am completley crazy when i say something that only Aunt Collete would say...there really is no one like my sistor (and Kristen if you know why we call each other that, please let me know...I just know it happened). So, HAPPY BELATED 25TH BIRTHDAY NETSIRK!!!!!!!!! Love ya, Adnar

best $3 investment ever...

I know I have already made one post today, but I was just thinking about some things. I saw a picture of my dog in my files...the one on my blog with her and her bug.

Who would have ever thought that that $3 dollar clearance toy from target would be such a great investment. Daisy absolutely LOVES that ugly bug. It has rope antennae, rope arms that reach to its knees, rope legs that are so long, and these huge eyes that stick up off its head. It really is pretty ugly, but for some reason Daisy loves it. It doesn't even squeak (which is probably a good thing).

I get ready in my bathroom in the mornings, and for those of you that have never seen my bathroom, it is quite large--I have a shower, garden tub, two (yes my friends two) closets, and a large double sink area. So in the mornings, I shower and then sit at the sinks and get ready to face the day...I have a small stool that I sit on so I don't have to stand the whole time, that is rather nice. Usually about 3 times a week, Daisy will come walking in with that bug hanging out of her mouth, looking so pitiful that I just have to pick it up and throw it. Now keep in mind I am in my bathroom, so there are very few options for me to throw it, so I throw it out into the bedroom and usually hit the bed, but she loves it. I really think that bug has to be one of the best $3 investments that I have ever made.
I don't know what do you think...does she love her bug?

What is a good investment that you have made? Please share I would love to hear...
BTW Debra, I had totally forgotten about the notorious B.U.G incident...but when i read your comment, I laughed out loud...good times!!!

skirts...

So for those of you that actually know me, you know that is a rare occasion (and when I say rare occasion, I mean pigs might fly before you see it again) that I actually wear a skirt/dress. I actually own 2 dresses, and maybe about 10 skirts, but just NEVER wear them. I decided today that I wanted to wear a skirt to work. Just because I didn't want to iron anything, but I wanted to wear sandels in order to show off my freshly pedicured feet. Now granted, the skirt is not short, it is barely showing ankle and I wore a white shirt and denim jacket with it. Very casual, but still decent. Before 8:00 am, teachers were coming down the hall just to ask me about my wardrobe choice for the day. They were all convinced that I had a date after school and that is why I "dressed" up. Quite honestly if that is the case, I don't even know about it. So for those of you that may have seen my wardrobe choice for the day...congrats, it won't happen again for a long while. For those of you that didn't, no there aren't pictures, that I know of, and just keep waiting, you never know when I may be in the no iron, show off my toes mood again.
